Mrs Simpson Streamer Fly
An old classic fly in many variations that trout love. One of the 'killer' fly family, like the Walkers Killer and Hamills Killer. A great fly for many species, especially trout and bass. It takes a lot of feathers to tie one fly.
The fly is such a good lure that it was named after Mrs. Wallace Simpson, who lured King Edward VIII into a romantic relationship, but was unable to get him to marry her. Perhaps it was a barbless hook or maybe the tippet snapped. Another version of the story is that he abdicated his throne to marry her. Sounds like a fisherman's story.
Fish it in still water with a jerky retrieve to imitate a dying minnow. Some say it also resembles a crab, so also try it slow on the bottom. Experiment with different lines to see which is most effective.
In streams and rivers it can be fished upstream, but more effectively using the down-and-across method.
The Mrs Simpson Streamer Fly is available in standard and minnow versions. The minnow has a head with an eye.
Unweighted fly, tied on a Grip 13812 barbed hook.
